Trying to locate a former engineer at WRBD

I'm trying to locate one of the engineers at WRBD. His name was Bob "Barney" Barnett. He worked there in the late 60's and early 70's. He was friends with several DJ's at other stations. Johnny Dark and Sandy Beach are two that come to mind.

WHERE CAN I FIND MUSIC FROM THE ANTIQUES, COKE, HEAVEN, ???????

The Greaseman Returns to J-Ville

The Greaseman has returned to Jacksonville radio. He is now on Rock 105i (WFYV FM) M-F 3pm to 7pm. He's been in D.C. for the last several years doing just a Saturday morning show but now is back on full-time in J-Ville. Heres the link

At long last, I found a batch of negatives mostly relating to the Baldwin site, scanned them, and with any luck, will be on the other side of this link. I don't know how to post them here, sorry.
I have many more pictures, but can't seem to find the negatives, so I'll just have to scan the pictures.

Yeeeepppppp....I did tonight find at my door a box of 5 CD's
sent by Don Woollard from Kalifornia. There's Jack Mock &
Ike Lee from the fall of 1963. The other 4 are Dino Summerlin

Don Wollard shared a couple of really neat stories, and he has given me permission to post them.

Story 1.

The Big Ape was a little slow to catch on to the British Music Invasion, and consequently we fell behind a couple of other stations in late 1962, and early 1963.

XM Salute #2 For WAPE 690

I have been in touch with Terry "Motormouth" Young at XM Satellite radio. He appears to be interested in doing a second salute to WAPE 690.

He is interested in getting all materials available sent to him. I would imagine he will judge whether to do the salute depending on what he receives. But, I do know there have been various second salutes to stations in the past year or two.

A suggestion would be to get in touch with as many former employees of WAPE 690 from the...

It was an underground FM station out of WPB late 60's. It was so good I put a 40' antenna to pick it up in Hialeah. Mother Radio played Zappa, Sabbath etc. awesome

I'm new around here gang..so be gentle (grin)..I am from Toronto and I find it fascinating reading about Florida Top 40 Radio here..I'm also an aircheck collector..WOWO was a big part of my childhood in the 70s up here..great thumping 50k sound..but seems no one recorded them..unless someone has a basement full of old reels lurking in old rusty crates..just a thought.Happy crumble!

I just listened to Mechanical World by Spirit. I'm not sure who broke that record down here in the greater Miami area,WFUN or WQAM. This song is one of the most understated psych classics ever written and recorded. There is nothing better than this necessarily. When I hear Mechanical World I think Spirit is every bit as good as The Beatles. Fresh Garbage,Uncle Jack...awesome songs with no weak links in the band ,in my opinion. Recomended listening. I remember listening to WFUN and WQAM and sometimes being amazed that they played the same song at the exact same time.!! That was back in the day before radio shows were recorded and sent out over sattelites and there is never a real dj.

Was it FUN or QAM that used to play scenes from the Lone Ranger and Tonto? Mmm Could Be Trouble.

Here's a WQAM chart from 6/15/68. I'm the Jeff on the signature, but can't figure out for the life of me which DJ signed it.

I was 11 years old in '68. My Dad was a bread delivery truck driver and one of his customers was located in the same row as WQAM, which if memory serves, was right at the bridge overlooking the river. I used to go there every chance I got to get these surveys, and naively hope to see a musical star, or at least a DJ.

Thanks to Ken Gemmer for sending this our way. WRBD was the "Rockin' Big Daddy". A lot of folks really dug this station, including Jaco Pastorius, who hung this baby on his wall.

I remember my grandmother listening to WGBS, which had a "middle of the road" format. I have no memory of them ever rocking out at night, but apparently they must have, according to this article from Billboard Magazine. This was published in the September 17, 1968 issue.
