I was initially attracted to the above record because of its vocalist, Danny Skidmore, who had previously been with local bands like the Coachmen and Las Olas Brass... and had recorded a solo single for the Parkway label.

Unlike some of the other Free Fare singles around, this one is actually a really good funk record. Virtually the same...

Hello!

I've been lurking around here from time to time and thought maybe someone here could help me with information on Mercede records out of Fort Lauderdale.

There's this great funky song called "Trying to keep from crying" that was done by Nancy (and The Kintwetts) and also by Billi Welles & The Outer Realm Unlimited.

Were there other good artists/songs on this label? Who is/was John and Dee Mercede ?

Any info on this would be very helpful...

The trio consisted of Willie "Little Beaver" Hale on guitar, Ron Bogdon on bass, and Robert Ferguson on drums. In 1974, Hale spoke to Living Blues Magazine. "In Florida I just work around," he explained....

I met Alfons in the early seventies. I became very good friends with him and he taught me alot about "soulful" rhythm playing. Years later ('77) I remember driving with him down to Bobby Caldwell's house to pick up Bobby for the TK sessions when Caldwell was recording his first album. Those were fun times!
Alfons was a tremendous player - he and Little Beaver wrote the book on comping.

One of my All Time Favorite Hits! It still gets Air-Play!
I'm wondering if one could tell me how much it cost to make that record and how much it made? What has become of the band members? I believe Joe Galdo was the drummer (or programmer). Any history on these One Hit Latin Flavored Funk Monster Wonders would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

One of the hottest funk records in collectors' circles right now is "New Generation" by Universouls (Tener Custom 1053). What few people realize is that this came out on two different labels. It was also issued on Expression 371, with the group name shown as "The Universals".

After 14 months away from their airwaves, I finally had a chance to cue some vinyl and talk way too fast again, this time on the University of Miami station, WVUM.

DJ LeSpam invited me to join him in three hours of Miami funk and soul, which sounded like fun to me... and believe me, it was lots of fun! Between LeSpam's rare funk grooves and my obscure girl group and Northern soul 45s, we covered lots of ground in our three hours.
