Bartox Mountain played a concert with these guys in Sarasota. The concert was promoted by the local radio station there and I remember hanging around the station all day doing promo spots for the concert. Proctor Amusement Company played that concert too. The Last Word was promoting that song "Can't Stop Loving You" which was getting a lot of radio play. I think I thought it was a pretty good song. I told their guitarist that I thought Eric Clapton was the world's greatest guitarist. I asked him who he thought was best. He said he didn't know but it was probably Segovia or someone like that. He offered me the use of his Vox stack when we played our set. I thought that would be a great idea because the amp was bigger than my Super Reverb. But the amp was set so that it would overdrive so I couldn't get the tone I wanted out of it. Dickie Betts came to the show and heard us. He introduced himself to me and was complimentary. But I thought it sucked. Afterwards Gary Carter and Dickie and I sat around, drank wiskey and traded guitar licks. The next time I heard of Dickie Betts he had joined the Allman Brothers Band.
