I played there twice. The first time with Duke and The Counts in 1967...The Paxtons played with us and were a very nice group. The stage at that time was behind the bar. I returned with my own group, "Joshua"...I believe in 1970/71. The stage had been moved next to the front door. The owner thought it was too loud so he enclosed it with plexi-glass from top to bottom....we damn near blew our ear drums out..playing tunes of the day like Brown Sugar...Yikes. He felt pity on us and cut it to waist high...it helped some. There were two separate bars at that time...downstairs where we played and a gay bar upstairs. The head queen would come downstairs and stare at me while I was singing ballads. I never went upstairs, but one night on our break standing outside having ba smoke, the cops raided the upstairs...I never saw so many guys in hot pants carrying purses and screaming in my life...honest story! Unfortunately the owner was shot to death one afternoon while sitting at the bar...we never went back to play there.
