I had the pleasure of visiting Jaco's park in April. It wasn't until I was there in person, seeing what a great job that was done that I realized
(finally) what an impact Jaco made on the music world and not just to those who knew him back when. Way to go! He definately deserves it.

Jaco mural in Oakland Park
|
The artist Ciccio, a world famous painter and muralist, is creating an incredible work of art in Jaco Pastorius Park in Oakland Park, Fla. The mural depicts
Jaco, Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Charlie Parker, and Jimi Hendrix.
Follow the progress of the mural at http://ilovejaco.org/jaco_mural.html and grassrootsop.com. Feel free to share comments of support for this impressive effort with the City of Oakland Park (cityhall@oaklandparkfl.org) and Oakland Park Main Street (info@oaklandparkmainstreet.com). |

JACO MURAL DESTROYED | ||
|
Well folks, the "unofficial business manager for JPI" has successfully destroyed another artist...his belt must be full of notches. Speaking on
behalf of Jaco (cough..choke) he decided the artist wasn't good enough and brought in his own. After threats, hollering, pushing, and shoving to the point
that the organization gave in because they are "afraid" of legal action by JPI, and because, as the director stated that "he" is not only
crazy, but that he makes two of the official JPI members even crazier, today the mural was white washed out...what you see above is no more.
I am sure any other artist can do just as great of a job, perhaps even better...though that is all in the eye of the beholder...there is no such thing as better art...the fact is that making a judgment over a piece of art that wasn't even finished yet is hugely improper and a terrible set back in the art world. There are many more different ways to have handled this, at least let the artist finish, and then decide what to do. |

"unofficial business manager for JPI"

Ingrid,
This person seems like a real piece of work. I am confused though. If this person is the "unofficial BM for JPI",how then did he/she have the power to put the kabosh on the mural? Just curious. Probably just a garden variety control freak. I find it telling that this person waited until the mural was almost done before they decided it wasn't up to par. I feel bad that this happened. Don't worry, karma comes around. Pat (stratman) Maguire |

Hi Pat! The number 1, and sometimes was the only one supporter of the naming of the Park! You're right about the karma...it's definitely coming
around...slowly it turns, step by step..
Anyway, I didn't know the artist personally, met him once for a few minutes outside the Alley, still, it is a piece of art with of all things Jaco on it. Anyone who can be so intent to destroy a piece of art is inhumane and heartless. Only someone who acts above the law doing and saying whatever he wants, has no humility, nor regard for anyone's feelings, is arrogant and self righteous, is artificial and NEVER backs up what he says, and forces his way without consideration can do such a thing, as well is a fraud....you know what I mean, I hope. ![]() |

what a shame! That was a beautiful piece of art and since Jaco was a public figure and his image was not displayed for commercial purposes, no lawsuit would
have been successful. (I am a lawyer) It is an affront and ironic that an artist whose work, sweat, and toil went into memorializing a great artist would have
his work destroyed by such a petty person. It is also a shame that whoever capitulated to the demands of a moron did not have a spine to tell them to fuck off.
