Last night, Sept. 22, 2007, South Florida guitar virtuoso George Mazzola lost his battle with cancer.
George leaves behind his wife Lauren and their teenage son Jesse.
George performed with his wife, Lauren Smoken, (a fiery blues-rock belter), as a duo and in their band called "Smoken."
In early 2003, they released "Spoonful of Stars" which got rave reviews.

George was a seasoned pro who opened concerts for such legends as BB King and Robin Trower.
n June of 2003, George was diagnosed with prostate cancer and the south Florida musical community rallied together to help raise some funds for George's treatment. One of George's oldest and dearest friends, Jimi Ruccolo, organized this event.
The initial surgery and treatment went well and George was declared "in remission" with a favorable prognosis from the doctors.
Sadly, George's cancer came back and spread quickly. He passed last night with Lauren by his side.
He was a wonderful man, a phenomenal musician, a loving husband and father, and he will be terribly missed.
