Cosmo (Dave) Ohms here from the Gents Five. My Links is
www.Anamazebookings.com In 2001, after returning to South Florida in 1988, I opened the Anamaze Booking Agency. I am booking Local, National and Worldwide Attractions. I am currently the House Engineer and Production Manager at Miami's legendary Tobacco Road. I have been there since 1998. I have been fortunate to locate my former Bandmates and good friends the Gents 5 and have reunited to get together and play. I left Miami in 1967 and moved to Hawaii, where I became a founding member of THEATER OF MADNESS.
Pop culture had gone Hippie and Psychedelia, along with the newly emerging Heavy Metal sound, were on the way into the vocabulary and lifestyle of our three-brained contemporaries
TOM was an avant-garde, mutimedia, multisensual performing company, incorporating live music, theater, multi-media film and, slides, light-show and dance into a total environmental experiential immersion presentation and psychedelic phenomena. We toured the Hawaiian Island chain with "Sound of our Times" and opened for many Nationals including: Creedence Cleerwater Revival; Jefferson Airplane; Vanilla Fudge; Steppenwolf; Lee Michaels; It's a Beautiful day and The Greatful Dead (Check out 1969 oxomoto poster from Hawaii)
I lived in Hawaii from 1967-1972, going to the University of Hawaii amd performing with THEATER OF MADNESS until 1972, when we decided to relocate to NYC, in search of Fame, Fortune and the ever elusive Major Label Record Deal. In 1975 THEATER OF MADNESS separated, after playing in NYC for three years in many local, clubs and avant guard oriented venues. Once again the music, entertainment and pop culture were about to make a major change. Hippie was evolving in PUNK and NEW WAVE. Out of the ashes of TOM arose the Legendary STARTOON, one of the American first wave of acts including Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Patti Smith Group, Dead Boys, The Shirts, Tough Darts, Richard Hell and the Voidoids. I formed the Anamaze Records and Productions (One of the first ten American Independent Record labels to emerge from the then exploding PUNK/NEW WAVEmusic scene) and released four singles with STARTOON, CO1000"Rockin on the Bowery", CO1001"Birthday Heaven" b/w "Who's Been Naughty", CO1002"We Can Have a Party" b/w "Human's Being Human" and finally CO1003"Summer Volcano" b/w
"Affectionate Type". These records are all collectors items now, as they became forrunners of the DIY independent music production path, followed by many. These productions all incorporated the lush harmonies and modern surf feel along with the then NEW WAVE and PUNK ethos in the music and live shows. Gone were all the Theatrics, Costumes and Multimedia, into a newborn stripped-down version with great hook-ladden pop songs. During this period we played clubs like CBGB, MAX'S KANSAS CITY, THE RITZ, PRIVATES, THE TOMATO CLUB etc. Paralleling this period (1975-198
, I worked as a LIGHTING DIRECTOR at these Venues and production companies.
1976-1980 CBGB (where, as CBGB's Lighting Director I became the American Father of PUNK/NEW WAVE Lighting Style and designed the World Famous CBGB and OMFUG Home of Underground Rock Tee Shirt. I claim no trademark to this name, as it is Hilly Kristal's, but I did design it and incorporate it into the now famous fashion product Along with Taxi Briell, Charlie Martin and Norman Dunn, we became the Original Production Krew that made CBGB's and many of the acts that emerged from there world famous. At the same time we established the production standards that would continue to influence pop culture into the present. PUNK and NEW WAVE afficienados should check out the following links for lots of information and history about the origins.
