I only learned of his passing yesterday. I worked with Delaney and Bonnie on the 1970 "blue album"...probably the most fun session I was ever in on.
D & B were both very 'down-home', friendly, and soulful musicians. Delaney produced Eric Clapton's first solo album, and he encouraged Eric to
sing by telling him, "God gave you a gift and if you don't use it, He'll take it away". Needless to say, Eric is one of the finest singers on
the planet today. Delaney was a member of The Shindogs, the house band for the 60's TV show "Shindig", and a fabulous rhythm and slide guitar
player. He is - or was - the owner of the infamous Rosewood Telecaster which was given to him by George Harrison, which I actually got to pick up & play
during the session. Delaney's main axe was his Gibson Les Paul 'goldtop'. RIP, Delaney...you're now throwin' down with Duane and all the
rest of the Great Band Beyond...
