Ken Malden |
Lead | |
|
One of the pioneers of radio in South Florida , Ken Malden died..... he was 82. I believe years ago he was the program director at WGBS. I'm sure if
I'm wrong, Jeff will correct me. Ken's last job was doing the sports updates at WQAM (part time). Ken has held about every type of job there was in
South Florida radio.

I never worked with Ken... but I seem to recall him from Biscayne Kennel Club. If I'm not mistaken, he was affiliated with the track in some way (or at
least did some broadcasting for them). I used to hang out there for a while.

Same guy. I did not know him but there was a nice obit about him in the Miami Herald the other day. Hank Goldberg was quoted in it as saying he gave Hank his
start. We won't hold that against him since he otherwise was reported to be a very nice and competent guy. Malden was just his nom de air; he was from
Malden, Ma. per the obituary and used the city's name when he went on the air.

Article also said he was at a local radio station WQAM? until they let him go last year after he had been in broadcasting 50 plus years. Bastards.

DeeBee, Ken was only working part time at WQAM doing the "hourly" sports updates for 3 hours a day. It wasn't much of a job, trust me.
