This just in from Red Kelly:

"Sax Kari passed away in Florida after a short struggle with pancreatic cancer this past Thursday, October 1st.
A memorial service was held this morning, according to his son Melvin Blair.
He was a unique figure in the landscape of American music who, in my opinion, never got anywhere near the credit he deserved.
I will miss him.

Kari is a New Orleans music legend, but he's been a part of South Florida's musical history, too. I remember when he was working with Pat Ernst at Florida-Rock, and he also cut some sides for Henry Stone. I'm sure those of you who spent time at TK may have crossed paths with him.

"I couldn't help think how we once battled for our lives using clubs, then swords, then guns. Now we use pens and bureaucratic appeals."
