I was playing Pat's Place in lovely Pompano Beach (NOT) doing a duo with Pete Solley one Saturday night. Two chics were sitting at the bar and Pete yells "GOLDIE? I shant believe it". Genya/Goldie is an American singer and a respected and famous one amongst "real" upper class record company sleeze? HA! Pete knew her from watchin' the tele back home in England. Genya had the number one song in GB with Goldie and the Gingerbreads and was plastered all over UK tele and BBC radio. Genya was telling us the story of having to follow the Beatles on "Top of the Pops" hit song countdown television show. Genya/goldie held the #1 spot with "Heartbeat",made really famous by hermans hermits in America. Mickie Most, the big record producer cut the tune with herman , released it in America..........and BAM!!! A Smash!!! Goldie's record company failed to release it worldwide and freakin 'ermin stole her thunder. Genya said the beatle's were kind, complementary and very cool and supportive that night on the UK broadcast. The point to the story is when you have a #1 record in a big country send advance copies to the rest of the world. Genya is cool people. She hooked me up with David Foster with a 3/4 time song I wrote with Aretha in mind. Solley recorded and produced the song for me but it never made it to the final 10 that got cut with the Foster/aretha peeps.
